best compression for HD video in Youtube

Postby bmccall17 on Fri Sep 19, 2008 8:08 am

I have a :07 video that I compiled. It is widescreen and HD.
I want to press it to two formats: one high quality for direct streaming through my website. The other to launch onto youtube with the best quality.

The video was shot at 1440x1080, 1080i60.

So how do I press these formats into their respective locations AND how do maintain the 16:9 format?

Please advise,
bam

Basically YouTube videos are a 4:3 aspect ratio, so the only way to get widescreen is to show it as a letterbox. You can export out of Final Cut using QT Pro or Compressor, as 320 x 240 (or some multiple) in the Export Size Settings, check the Preserve aspect ratio using Letterbox checkbox.

Here are some good tips on compression for YouTube here:

Please post what you decide to do so others may learn from your efforts.

You can now do 2 things on youtube.

1. Get a flv converter like On2 Tech and encode a HD flv which will not be re-encoded when uploaded to YouTube.
2. H264 is Flash 10 some even started calling it Flash 9. However, Flash 10 is really when it became so. Adobe Flash 10 player will play H264 from the web.
